A symbolic ceremony was organised at the Centenary Stadium Hall, whereas a sponsorship agreement was reached between the Malta Tourism Authority and the 5 Maltese clubs that will be participating in the UEFA European Club Competitions amongst them Hibernians who will face Shamrock Rovers in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League Floriana, winners of the IZIBET FA Trophy, face FC Petrocub-Hincesti from Moldova, Gzira United meet Andorran club Atletic Club D’Escaldes whilst Hamrun Spartans play against Alashkert FC of Armenia. Birkirkara FC’s women team will know their opponents in tomorrow’s draw in Nyon.

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo said that this is an important moment for all stakeholders involved. “The MTA and similar entities are recognising the challenges and burdens that football clubs go through to reach higher targets.’ President Vassallo said.

Bjorn Vassallo explained that qualifying and performing positively in European competitions is crucial for local clubs not only because of the financial rewards but above all because of the visibility that Maltese football gets on the international scene.

Based on this agreement, the Malta Tourism Authority takes an obligation to support financially the five clubs that will take part in the European Competitions this year. In return the clubs will show the VisitMalta logo on their jersey’s during these international committments.
