The Malta FA, through its FSR Department, is one of the official grant winners in the 5th edition of the UEFA’s Football and Refugees Grant Scheme.

23 National Associations participated and 11 official grant winners together with 8 projects with a special mention were selected as the official winners of the grant that provides funding for refugee-related projects organised and operated by European football associations.

Malta’s project is entitled "Pass the Ball" whereas female refugee players will be paired with local female football players in a unique mentorship programme. It also explores innovative ways to help female refugees learn the language and culture, and find employment in football. Through its community approach, the project also seeks to involve the refugee women's family members, going beyond those who play football.

The other 10 grant winners were the National Associations of Armenia, Belgium, Croatia, England, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Moldova, Northern Ireland, and Romania.

The announcement was made today which marks World Refugees Day
